Depreciation Calculators

We’re often asked by clients how much depreciation we think might be available to claim on a potential property purchase. There’s two easy ways to take a guess at this;

Both of our favourite quantity surveyor firms have online calculators that can help estimate the depreciation for you.

For a quick guess based on a few basic questions, BMT & Assoc have an online form that you can use, and a free iphone app that you can download as well.

For a more comprehensive estimate, you can also try the Depreciator tool. This one asks more questions, takes a little longer and doesn’t (yet?) come in app form; but, we’ve found it to be much more accurate.

Give both a shot when you’re looking at buying your next property and see what you think. Of course, no online estimation is going to come too close to the real thing and so once you’ve gone unconditional on a contract we’d highly recommend getting in touch with either firm linked above and getting the report done properly.
